Steltenkamp Named External Chief Medical Officer at º£½Ç½ûÇø HealthCare
Dr. Carol Steltenkamp, professor of pediatrics at the University of Kentucky, has been appointed external chief medical officer for º£½Ç½ûÇø HealthCare. In this new role, she represents the voices of clinicians in strategy, outreach and communications. Working on behalf of the Office of the º£½Ç½ûÇø Executive Vice President for Health Affairs, she is responsible for developing and maintaining strategic clinical alliances with physicians and health care organizations throughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky and beyond.
Steltenkamp has been a member of the pediatric faculty at the º£½Ç½ûÇø College of Medicine since 1996. From 2004 to 2018, she served as º£½Ç½ûÇø HealthCare’s first chief medical information officer. She received her medical degree at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and completed a residency at º£½Ç½ûÇø. She is certified by the American Board of Pediatrics. Steltenkamp has chaired the Kentucky eHealth Board, which successfully launched and maintains the Kentucky Health Information Exchange (KHIE). She is also the principal investigator for more than $10 million in health care information technology (HIT) grant funding, including the foundational grant from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services establishing the Kentucky Regional Extension Center. In her new role working in partnership with clinical and administrative leaders at º£½Ç½ûÇø HealthCare, she will use her expertise to provide a unified approach to º£½Ç½ûÇø HealthCare’s external clinical strategies. She will also lead and oversee efforts to increase current market penetration and strengthen º£½Ç½ûÇø HealthCare affiliations in line with enterprise growth targets and work with physicians and surgeons to build referral relationships and find creative ways to develop new business.
