Accreditation
The º£½Ç½ûÇø College of Medicine is accredited by Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME).
About Accreditation and LCME
The Liaison Committee on Medicine Education (LCME), jointly sponsored by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) and the American Medical Association (AMA), is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as an accrediting agency for medical education programs leading to the MD.
The LCME is the only national accrediting body for allopathic medical schools, with an established set of standards all institutions must comply with in order to achieve and maintain accredited status. LCME accreditation is required in most states for licensing graduates and receiving federal financial aid.
Update Series: Monthly Blog
Follow along as we share monthly updates about the accreditation process and how the college is preparing for the LCME survey visit.
Why is Accreditation Important?
Accreditation ensures that our medical school meets national standards for:
- Educational quality
- Curriculum and instruction
- Faculty qualifications
- Student support and well-being
It also protects what matters most to our students:
- Eligibility for federal financial aid
- Access to licensure exams
- Opportunities for residency placement
Accreditation enhances the school's reputation and credibility, drives continuous improvement, and affirms that our institution is indeed preparing future physicians to practice safely, ethically, and effectively.
The LCME Accreditation Survey Visit Process
A successful LCME accreditation and survey visit process relies on the collective efforts of our entire medical school community. As the visit approaches, the College of Medicine will engage in a thorough period of self-study and evaluation to showcase our strengths and identify areas for improvement. We encourage faculty, staff, and students to participate in the process by engaging in accreditation and school initiatives and connecting with colleagues in other departments and units to learn more about our institution.
The LCME accreditation process consists of four components:
- Data collection instrument, or DCI ()
- Faculty-led institutional self-study
- Student-led independent student analysis
- Completion and review of the accreditation survey visit
