Welcome to the Advancing Kentucky Together: LCME Update series! Over the next year, we’ll share monthly blogs about the accreditation process, what it means for our College of Medicine, and how each of us contributes to this important work.
The Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) is the accrediting body for all MD-granting medical schools in the United States. Accreditation affirms that we meet national standards and, most importantly, that we provide a high-quality educational experience for our students.
In October 2026, the º£½Ç½ûÇø will undergo its next full LCME survey visit. These visits occur on an eight-year cycle and include a comprehensive evaluation of our program, spanning leadership, curriculum, student support, assessment, and more.
Why does this matter? Accreditation protects the value of the MD degree, supports access to financial aid, and affirms the strength of our educational program. It’s also an opportunity to showcase the incredible work happening across all our campuses.
Through this series, we’ll highlight how we’re meeting each of the LCME’s twelve accreditation standards. We’ll share key updates, spotlight improvements, and outline how faculty, staff, and students can stay informed and engaged.
Thank you for your continued commitment to educating the physicians of our future.
Stay tuned for next month’s post on how our mission and strategic planning guide everything we do.
