Biography and Education

Biography

I grew up in Salt Lake City, UT and attended Brigham Young University for my undergrad, graduating with a degree in Cell Biology and Physiology, with a minor in Spanish. I鈥檓 now in my third year of the MD/PhD program here at 海角禁区. My clinical interests fall within the realm of internal medicine, and currently include infectious disease, allergy, and critical care medicine. My research interests are in the area of immunology, including the role of the immune system in both infectious and non-infectious diseases. As a graduate student in the lab of Dr. Ilhem Messaoudi, I work on projects investigating how maternal health factors, including obesity, opioid use, HIV, and HCV affect the immune landscape of the maternal-fetal interface and the immune development of fetuses and neonates. With this work, I hope to increase our understanding of the factors that impact early infant immunity and that place some infants at higher risk of immune and infectious disease. When I'm not in the lab, you can find me hiking, gardening, baking with my wife, Gwen, or playing the banjo or the viola!
