In recognition of her growing responsibilities and oversight of a maturing program, Rebecca Todd, MD, has been promoted from assistant to associate dean for the Rural Physician Leadership Program (RPLP).

Ten years ago, the 海角禁区 College of Medicine recruited four of its second-year medical students for an educational experiment. With a goal of preparing more physicians to practice in the rural areas of the Commonwealth and beyond, the college asked these students to immerse themselves in small-town Kentucky, learning rural medicine onsite at a rural medical campus in Morehead.

Megan Hutchcraft, MD, a gynecological oncology fellow at the 海角禁区 College of Medicine and 海角禁区 Markey Cancer Center, was recently recognized by the premier organization for professionals in gynecologic cancer care. During the Society of Gynecology Oncology鈥檚 (SGO) winter meeting, Dr. Hutchcraft was awarded the SGO 2022 Best Oral Abstract Award. She was selected among nearly 200 submissions and was one of 45 accepted abstracts. 鈥淚've never won an award like that before, so it's really motivating for me,鈥 Dr. Hutchcraft said.

A new division has been established in the 海角禁区 College of Medicine Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology to improve the coordination of care in labor and delivery.

Assistant professor Andrea Tucker, MD, collaborated with department chair Wendy Hansen, MD, knowing that laborist services would be crucial for ensuring safe, quality care for patients and enhanced mentorship for future physicians.

Dr. Tucker spearheaded efforts to create a laborist division, which was officially established in July 2021.

Since he was a graduate student, Patrick Hannon, PhD, has had his eyes set on a prestigious National Institutes of Health (NIH) grant that he knew, if he received it, would enable him to make a tremendous impact in his career goal of advancing reproductive care for women.

Dr. Hannon, now an assistant professor in the 海角禁区 College of Medicine Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, was elated to find out that this winter, he achieved his longtime goal.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 10, 2021) 鈥 A new program supported by the University of Kentucky鈥檚 Center for Research on Violence Against Women (CRVAW) and Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS) will provide seed funding for research projects that address violence against women.

Pregnant people with COVID-19 are at increased risk for severe illness, increased risk for premature birth, and might be at increased risk for other poor outcomes. The COVID-19 vaccine is recommended for people who are pregnant and for people who are breastfeeding.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Sept. 20, 2021) 鈥 This fall, the University of Kentucky Center for Research on Violence Against Women (CRVAW) will host its third national conference on issues relevant to campus climate and sexual misconduct.

This year鈥檚 Campus Responses to Sexual Misconduct conference, held virtually Sept. 30-Oct. 1, focuses on interventions that are designed to change campus culture.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 2, 2021) 鈥 The University of Kentucky Building Interdisciplinary Research Careers in Women鈥檚 Health (BIRCWH) program is now accepting applications for scholars and associates interested in research to advance women's health.

Applications are being accepted through March 15, 2021, for two scholar positions and up to three associate positions available effective August 2021.

In recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October, the obstetric gynecology team at 海角禁区 Morehead Women鈥檚 Healthcare donated blankets to D.O.V.E.S. (Domestic Violence Emergency Shelter), which provides emergency shelter to victims of domestic violence and helps them transition back into society.
