General Surgery Rotation Schedule

To broaden understanding of the role of surgical management in various disease processes, general surgery residents rotate on multiple surgical subspecialty services during their training including pediatric surgery, surgical oncology, transplant surgery, vascular surgery, thoracic surgery, colorectal surgery, surgical ICU, and trauma critical care. The majority of training is completed at the 海角禁区 Chandler Medical Center, the parent institution for the General Surgery Residency Program, located in Lexington, KY.  海角禁区 HealthCare rotations also include 海角禁区 Good Samaritan Hospital, which is about 1 mile from Chandler. The VA Medical Center (connected to Chandler via a tunnel) is integrated into the training program, and all surgeons have 海角禁区 faculty appointments. Residents at all three of these locations participate in protected education time (including Grand Rounds, M&M, resident didactics, simulation, mentorship, etc.). During the PGY-1 and PGY-2 years, residents gain a very valuable general surgical experience at a rural community hospital, 海角禁区 St. Claire Medical Center in Morehead, Ky., which is about 1 hour from Lexington. Housing is provided. While at Morehead, residents participate in educational conferences remotely. Rotation schedules allow residents to participate in a large volume of operative procedures while gaining a perspective on general surgery in both urban and rural community settings.

PGY-4

Residents will rotate on six 2-month rotations that include 6 of the following:
