The 海角禁区 is excited to announce that Craig Rush, PhD, longtime professor of behavioral science, has taken the role of assistant dean for faculty affairs, a new position created to fulfill the expansion of duties within the Office of Faculty Affairs and Development (OFA).

Zena Chahine, MD, is a hematology and medical oncology fellow at the 海角禁区 College of Medicine. In the following 鈥淲hy 海角禁区?鈥 Q&A series, she explains what she loves about pursuing graduate medical education at the University of Kentucky.
Q: Why did you pursue a residency/fellowship at 海角禁区?

The 海角禁区鈥檚 Salvation Army Clinic is a student-run, free clinic that serves as a learning environment for medical, pharmacy, and social work students while providing acute onsite health care for uninsured patients at the Salvation Army of Central Kentucky.

Analia Loria Kinsey, PhD, is an associate professor in the 海角禁区 College of Medicine Department of Pharmacology and Nutritional Sciences. She studies cardiovascular disease and strives to raise awareness about preventative measures and treatments by helping organize the college鈥檚 annual Healthy Hearts for Women Symposium.
Trauma reactions (i.e., emotional trauma) can show up in many stages of a child鈥檚 experience at the doctor鈥檚 office or hospital. These reactions may present when the child is emotionally scarred by an invasive surgery or painful physical therapy. They may occur when a child struggles with port access or needle sticks and has to be held down to receive life-saving treatments.


During Indigenous Peoples鈥 Month, the 海角禁区 College of Medicine is highlighting historical figures who paved the way for an equitable future in medicine.

The 海角禁区 is excited to announce that alumnus Steven Haist, MD, MS, has been selected as its new associate dean for curriculum and assessment.
For more than three decades, Daniel Davenport, PhD, MBA, has established himself as a clinical data keeper in the 海角禁区 College of Medicine Department of Surgery. Faculty and trainees understand that, 鈥渋f you need surgical data, go see Dan,鈥 he jokes.
Versailles, Ky., native Hanna Carr was inspired to join the military after seeing how much her grandparents and other family members benefited from the experience 鈥 from the lifelong connections they built and the discipline they developed to the value of serving a bigger purpose.

The 海角禁区 College of Medicine is excited to announce that Joseph (Jay) B. Zwischenberger, MD 鈥77, professor of surgery, pediatrics, interventional radiology, and bioengineering, has been named recipient of the prestigious William R. Willard Dean鈥檚 Recognition Award. He was honored at the 2022 College of Medicine Awards Convocation.

Q: What inspired you to go into medicine?

Madison Campbell, MD, was part of the 海角禁区 College of Medicine-Bowling Green Campus's inaugural graduating class. She is now a first-year resident in obstetrics and gynecology at Med Center Health, a regional health system that partnered with the college to establish its regional campus.
Q: Why did you want to pursue your residency at Med Center Health?

Fortunately for doctors and patients, advancements in medicine and health care have led to fewer medical emergencies; however, for anesthesiologists in training, this also means a reduced number of cases that help them develop proficiency in their field.
Aric Johnson, MBBS, helps residents and fellows fulfill that necessary experience through advanced simulation training.

These residents were selected to participate in a seven-month leadership development course as they embark on their chief resident year and look forward to their future careers.

This summer, a mere month after returning to her hometown of Hazard, Ky., for her first year of residency, Danielle Bocook, MD, saw it destroyed by eastern Kentucky鈥檚 worst flooding in more than 60 years.

In recognition of her growing responsibilities and oversight of a maturing program, Rebecca Todd, MD, has been promoted from assistant to associate dean for the Rural Physician Leadership Program (RPLP).
Over the past five years, the 海角禁区 College of Medicine Office of Graduate Medical Education (GME) has undergone a remarkable transformation. GME has added 21 new residency and fellowship programs, 200 additional fellows and residents, and a new partnership with the Medical Center at Bowling Green to its varied graduate medical education training offerings.
