Cheavar Blair, PhD, completed his doctorate at the 海角禁区 in 2015. During his graduate training, he was impressed by 海角禁区鈥檚 supportive environment and attentive faculty 鈥 qualities that enticed him to return when a faculty position recently became available.

The 海角禁区 lost an icon in the field of cardiovascular medicine, translational research, and medical education. Susan Smyth, MD, PhD, died of cancer on Dec. 31, 2022, at the age of 57.

The 海角禁区 is excited to announce that Craig Rush, PhD, longtime professor of behavioral science, has taken the role of assistant dean for faculty affairs, a new position created to fulfill the expansion of duties within the Office of Faculty Affairs and Development (OFA).

The year 2022 has been one 鈥渨ild ride鈥 for Alexandria Early Linton, PhD.

This was her final year of her PhD. She defended her thesis while 33 weeks pregnant with her first child, and she had her baby on the day of Awards Convocation when it was announced she won the inaugural Dr. Madhav and Dr. Radhika Devalaraja Outstanding Graduate Student Thesis Award.

Donna Wilcock

Donna Wilcock, PhD, wears many hats at the University of Kentucky, all of which are roles that help advance education and research in the Commonwealth, particularly in the realm of Alzheimer鈥檚 disease. Dr. Wilcock is assistant dean for biomedicine at the 海角禁区 College of Medicine, as well as associate director of Sanders-Brown Center on Aging. She is also the Robert P. and Mildred A.

Nearly two years ago, with funding from 海角禁区 HealthCare and the vice president for research, the College of Medicine launched the Alliance Research Initiative. It has a mission, Vice Dean for Research Rebecca Dutch, PhD, explained, 鈥渢o help spur on transdisciplinary research by pairing clinical and basic scientists together to answer new questions in new ways.鈥

Andrew Krusenstjerna is a rising fourth-year PhD candidate in microbiology, immunology, and molecular genetics.
