Danielle S. Walsh, MD, FAAP, FACS, officially joined the 海角禁区 College of Medicine Department of Surgery faculty on Friday, July 15. Along with a pediatric surgery practice at 海角禁区 Children's Hospital, Dr. Walsh will serve as the surgery department's vice-chair of quality and process improvement.

For physician-scientist Mary Sheppard, M.D., her clinical practice and research are deeply personal.

Standing among their classmates at the University of Kentucky鈥檚 Kroger Field, a friend group of seven medical students simultaneously opened letters to find out where they would pursue the next step in their training.

The 2022 resident and fellow class at the 海角禁区 College of Medicine Department of Surgery will either be continuing their training in fellowships at some of the most prestigious programs in the country or starting their surgical practice in Kentucky or within this region of the country.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (May 13, 2022) 鈥 While completing his undergraduate degree at the University of Kentucky, Jonathan Davies found himself at a crossroads. He had stretched himself too thin with involvement in organizations and programs, and he started suffering burnout. He then missed the window to take his medical school entrance exam junior year.
At first, he felt lost and far behind his peers. But he learned later that this wasn鈥檛 a misstep. It was a redirection.

The 海角禁区 College of Medicine is excited to announce that Sarah Hall, MD, PhD, and Eleftherios Xenos, MD, PhD, have been elected to represent the college on the University Senate.
The University Senate is the faculty voice in the governance of our college and the University and determines broad academic policies of the University. Dr. Hall and Dr. Xenos will serve as College of Medicine representatives for three-year terms beginning in August.

The University of Kentucky Department of Surgery and 海角禁区 HealthCare are pleased to welcome David A. Rodeberg, MD, FACS, a nationally celebrated Pediatric Surgeon, to its providers.
In addition to his surgical practice, Dr. Rodeberg has accepted the role of Division Chief of Pediatric Surgery. He will take the place of Dr. John Draus, the outgoing division chief and colleague who played an instrumental role in Dr. Rodeberg's recruitment. Dr. Draus accepted a new leadership role at a children鈥檚 hospital in Jacksonville, Florida

The 海角禁区 is pleased to announce the faculty, staff, and learner winners of the inaugural Mission, Vision, Pillar, and Enabler Awards.

During Match Day 2022 in mid-March, 27 graduating students from the 海角禁区 matched into several Surgery-related residency programs. Of those 27, University of Kentucky residency programs welcomed 13 of those students, including one match to the recently established 海角禁区 General Surgery Residency Program in Bowling Green.

A proposal for standardizing Operating Room (OR) setups was among the top 10 winners in the Shark Tank pitch competition at the 2021 Veteran鈥檚 Health Administration (VHA) Innovation Experience (iEX) in Washington, DC last October. The pitch, developed through a collaboration of Lexington VA and University of Kentucky surgeons, demonstrated how standardized OR setups have the potential to improve patient outcomes and reduce costs by millions of dollars.

Roberto Gedaly, MD, and Francesc Marti, PhD, investigators in the 海角禁区 Department of Surgery, have noticed a year-over-year increase in liver transplants at 海角禁区 HealthCare.
鈥淣ot only has our volume gone up significantly,鈥 Dr. Gedaly said, 鈥渨e鈥檙e actually going to break a record of liver transplant patients this year.鈥
