The Kentucky Chapter of the American College of Physicians (ACP) recently held its 2024 Fall Meeting. The event included keynote speakers, a poster competition for medical students and residents, a doctor dilemma challenge, as well as networking opportunities. Students from our Lexington, Bowling Green, and Northern Kentucky campuses represented our college well.

The 海角禁区 congratulates 39 medical students who were selected as members of Alpha Omega Alpha, a national medical honor society that honors those who demonstrate professionalism, leadership, scholarship, research, and community service in the medical field.

After serving for eight years as the assistant dean for clinical education, John Ragsdale, MD, MS, has been promoted to associate dean for curriculum.

Over the summer, a cohort of five rising second-year medical students participated in a four-week pilot exposing them to quality improvement (QI) concepts as inaugural members of the Churchill Summer QI Research Fellows program.

The 海角禁区 College of Medicine Standardized Patient Program launched in the late 1980s, and over the subsequent decades, has become deeply engrained throughout all four years of our students' medical training. 

Gina Wesley, PhD, serves as manager of the program, bringing years of expertise in higher education, program management, and moulage skills to the role.

The 海角禁区 is pleased to announce that Aradhana Kaushal, MD, has been named assistant dean for the Rural Physician Leadership Program (RPLP) in Morehead, Ky.

The 海角禁区 is a multicampus institution that delivers excellent undergraduate medical education across four sites in the Commonwealth. Jeremy Swiney, MD

Jeremy Swiney, MD, became interested in medicine after shadowing his hometown physician while in high school. Growing up in Magoffin County, Ky., Dr. Swiney witnessed the impact local physicians had on his small town, igniting a passion for serving rural communities.

For years, the 海角禁区鈥檚 Professional Education Preparation Program (PEPP)-Scholars has provided summer academic enrichment activities to rising college freshmen from racially/ethnically underrepresented or rural backgrounds. The goal of this early exposure to the field of medicine carries with it the hope of solidifying their commitment to the career path.

Thanks to a student-led effort, free sunscreen dispensers are available throughout the University of Kentucky鈥檚 medical campus. 

The dispensers 鈥� which offer passersby a hypoallergenic SPF 30 perfect for all skin types 鈥� are the idea of second-year College of Medicine students Noor Ali and Parisa ShamaeiZadeh.

Just a few weeks into Alexander Muto鈥檚 first year of medical school, disaster struck his hometown of Lahaina, Hawaii.
